CEREC Crowns in One Visit

A crown, also known as a “cap,” is used to treat teeth with severe decay or structural loss. Crowns can be used to close unsightly gaps or fix severe decay. A crown can also be used to improve tooth color. They can be applied in the same way that tooth-colored fillings or porcelain veneers are used to improve the cosmetic look of the smile.

Crowns are made to look exactly the way your own teeth do. They provide a realistic look and feel – if done properly by one of our professionals – the crown will be invisible to the naked eye.  They protect the teeth and restore chewing and speaking ability.

There are three main steps to getting a crown made: preparation of the tooth, an impression of the tooth, and cementing the crown in the mouth. Crowns can be cemented to the natural tooth structure or they can be placed on a dental implant. In our office, we may take a traditional impression with putty-like material or take a digital impression with CEREC technology.

What is CEREC Technology?

In the past, a crown procedure would require two separate visits. During the first, your tooth would be prepared to fit a crown. and then an impression of your teeth would be taken and sent out to a lab that would make the crown at an offsite location. In the meantime, while your real crown is being made and shipped, you would wear a temporary one. During the second appointment, you would receive the long-lasting crown.

CEREC technology has done away with literally half of this process. It allows us at here at BRAIDC to help you more efficiently by cutting down on wait time with an uncomfortable and temporary solution. With this technology, we use a computer to make the crown while you wait with us. This eliminates the need for a second appointment altogether. You won’t have to set aside valuable time to visit us a second time – at BRAIDC, you have access to same-day crowns.

CEREC crowns are made out of a single piece of pure ceramic, and they are tough and built to last. They contain absolutely no metal or other foreign materials or substances. Computer designing allows for a perfect match and fit. The accuracy helps keep your crown in place and in perfect harmony with the rest of your mouth. You will save money in the long run as there will be no extra fees for a second appointment.
